   Using Fire Modeling
to Establish Sprinkler
System Design Criteria

Presenter:  Milosh Puchovsky,  Professor - Worcester Polytechnic Institute

We are pleased to announce Milosh Puchovsky as the presenter for our April meeting.  Milosh is Professor of Practice, Department of Fire Protection Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he focuses on fire and life safety system design, installation and performance.  He is President Elect for the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, and serves on the Society’s Engineering Licensing Committee.  He was previously Assistant Vice President and Secretary to NFPA’s Standards Council overseeing the development and technical revision of all NFPA codes and standards.  Milosh serves on numerous NFPA Technical Committees including Sprinkler Systems, Fire Pumps, and the Life Safety Code, and the Fire Council of Underwriters Laboratories.  He has worked as a design engineer, code consultant and insurance loss control specialist.  Milosh holds two engineering degrees, and has authored a range of fire protection engineering publications.

NFPA 13 addresses the installation of sprinkler systems for a broad range of applications.  However, situations can arise where applying the prescriptive provisions of the standard becomes problematic.  In such cases, strict compliance with the prescribed spacing and positioning rules could result in a less than desirable outcome with respect to both sprinkler system performance, and the overall aesthetic appearance and functionality of the protected space.  This presentation describes and provides examples of how a performance-based approach utilizing computer fire modeling can be applied to establish sprinkler system design criteria while still maintaining compliance with NFPA 13.

Please plan to attend this important informational event.  We encourage you to pass this invitation on to co-workers, professional acquaintances, friends, and others that would be interested in this program and our MN SFPE chapter.

Make your reservations on our website - http://www.sfpemn.org/- or by contacting Andrew Leahy; email: mnsfpe@gmail.com, phone: (952) 656-3626. Membership is not mandatory for this program, but always encouraged.  See you there!
