Presenter: Kristine A. Kubes, JD; past Chair, MN Board of AELSLAGID

 

Summary:  This presentation will bolster engineers’ understanding of their rights, as well as their obligations, under the Minnesota Rules on professionalism and ethics that apply to every design professional, help attendees understand the link between an ethical professional practice and the protection of the public, evaluate case studies, and give attendees tools for identifying and handling ethical dilemmas on their projects and in their practices/firms.

  • MN Rules of Professionalism and Ethics
  • How Rules on professionalism and ethical practice protect the public, health, safety, welfare
  • How to identify ethical dilemmas in practice - both in the office and in the field
  • How to empower your practice - doing the right thing; using the Licensure Board's Complaint Process as a method for protecting the practice of engineering

Kristine A. Kubes is the principal of the Kubes Law Office, PLLC, serving design and construction professionals. She concentrates her work on professional liability defense/ litigation, and proactive construction counseling, which involves addressing and cooperatively resolving project management, risk management, payment and surety issues. Integrated with her legal practice, Kristine is a qualified neutral who mediates construction and design disputes. A graduate of the College of St. Catherine and the University of Minnesota Law School, Kristine serves as a Governing Committee Member of the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law. Kristine is a frequent lecturer on legal issues in design/construction and on professional liability and ethics for the design professional. She is an affiliate member of her clients’ professional societies: ACEC, AIA, and ASID. Governor Pawlenty appointed Kristine to serve as a public member on the MN State Board of AELSLAGID in 2005; she served as the Board’s Chair from 2009 to 2011 and completed eight years of service on the Board in 2013.
