 PASSIVE FIRE
PROTECTION 

 

 

Presenter: Mark Lund, PE,  3M

 

Mark will provide insight into two significant developments in the passive fire protection industry:

 

1) The addition of Firestopping into the list of Special Inspection required by the International Building Code

  • When are such inspections required?
  • Who is qualified to do them?     
  • How are they to be conducted?           

2) UL 1489 “Outline for Investigation for Fire Resistant Pipe Protection Systems Carrying Combustible Liquids”

  • How does Super Storm Sandy relate?            
  • Where is this required in code?               

Mark Lund works at 3M with 10 years of experience in their Passive Fire Protection Products business as an Application Development Engineer.  In this role he launches new products, manages fire tests and is a consulting resource for contractors, design engineers, code officials, and architects. He is a licensed MN Professional Engineer (Fire Protection, Mechanical) and he serves in industry as the Secretary of ASTM E06.21 – Building Performance, Serviceability and as Task Group Chairman for ASTM E05.11.14 Perimeter Fire Barrier Systems ASTM E 2307).
