Presenter: John Swanson, Deputy State Fire Marshal
This seminar will provide code officials, fire alarm designers and contractors with the important changes to the 2016 edition of NFPA 72. Over the past several code cycles there have been several changes and additions to NFPA 72 addressing with new technology, Class N circuits, performance of signaling line circuits, and emergency voice alarm communication systems. This seminar will highlight these changes and more that impact those who use the document on a regular basis. In 2017 Minnesota will begin work on adopting the 2018 edition of the International Building Code and International Fire Code which will likely reference the 2016 edition of NFPA 72. Proposed changes to the 2019 edition of NFPA 72 will also be discussed.
John Swanson is currently a Deputy State Fire Marshal - School Inspector/Plans Examiner with the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division. He has over 15 years experience as a firefighter and fire marshal at both the state and city level. John represents the State Fire Marshal Division on the NFPA 72 technical committee, Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Fire Code Development Committee, and Minnesota Construction Codes and Licensing Division Accessibility Review Board. John also serves as an instructor for the International Code Council, Automatic Fire Alarm Association, and the National Fire Academy.
