Update to NFPA 855 and the role of General Contractors in Fire Protection

Presenter:  Jason Knedlhans, Mortenson

Jason Knedlhans is the Energy Storage Technical Manager at Mortenson, where he is responsible for managing the design of energy storage systems for commercial and utility applications.  In his current role, Jason has successfully developed energy storage software models, vetted technology vendors and provided engineering services for active energy storage projects.  Jason’s passion for renewable energy solutions was first fulfilled by his position as an engineer for Underwriters Laboratories (UL).  As part of his more than 10-year career Jason traveled the world developing laboratories, testing products and evaluating renewable energy systems. Specializing in battery and inverter systems, Jason brings a comprehensive knowledge of energy storage systems to the market.  Jason holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.  He actively participates in the development of national standards NFPA 855 and UL 9540.  Jason looks forward to being a leader in the transition of the national electrical grid in a world of increasing electrification.

Jason will be presenting on an update to NFPA 855: Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage that is currently under development and its potential implications on the fire protection industry. He will also discuss the important roles between the EPC and fire protection professionals and how they can improve design and build firm relationships.
