Overview: Firestopping of penetrations and joints is an important aspect of passive fire protection. Effective compartmentation in the built environment contributes directly to the passive fire protection, and has a synergistic role in active fire suppression. Now that firestopping is a mandatory Special Inspection in certain building types, how to inspect & understanding and who’s credentialed to inspect, are key compliance concerns. Paul will provide a high-level review of firestopping fundamentals and then give practical advice & best practices about how code-compliant firestopping is achieved.
