 Firestop - Special Inspections

Overview: Firestopping of penetrations and joints is an important aspect of passive fire protection.  Effective compartmentation in the built environment contributes directly to the passive fire protection, and has a synergistic role in active fire suppression. Now that firestopping is a mandatory Special Inspection in certain building types, how to inspect & understanding and who’s credentialed to inspect, are key compliance concerns.   Paul will provide a high-level review of firestopping fundamentals and then give practical advice & best practices about how code-compliant firestopping is achieved.

Presenter: Paul Fannin, 3M Company: Paul is a Chemical Engineer by training who has 12 years with 3M. He is the construction joint specialist on the 3M Application Engineering Team and his work has brought his to the faraway reaches of India and the United Arab Emirates.  He serves as the task group chairman for the ASTM E2307 (Perimeter Fire Barriers) test standard.
