Presenter: Patrick Phelan


This presentation will discuss Passive Fire protection from the perspective of three of the main stakeholders: Authorities Having Jurisdiction, Manufacturers, and Engineers. Breaking down the approach and perspective of each to:

  • Model Codes Requirements
    • Prescriptive
    • Alternate Methods
    • Engineering Judgements
  • Standardized Testing's past, present, and future
  • Installation, Inspection, and Performance

Mr. Phelan is an Application Engineer with 3M Fire Protection Products and a registered Fire Protection Engineer. He is a former AHJ who has consulted on active and passive fire protection systems, life safety, fire detection and notification, building and fire codes, as well as, investigation of fires and fire analysis. He has experience in fire protection system design, fire protection system analysis, fire and smoke detection analysis, and fire origin and cause determination. He has been involved in fire testing according to ASTM, ISO, UL, and EN test standards, as well as, large-scale fire test design and implementation including fire suppression and detection components and is the current Sub-Secretary for ASTM E05.11. He has published and presented on topics including self-heating, smoke detection, and multi-sensor fire and smoke detection.

 

This event will be taking place at a new venue this month - Woody's Grille in Eden Prairie. It is a bit more south west from the cities than Park Tavern, so please plan accordingly.
