Explosion and Pressure Relief Systems

The April SFPE Meeting will be an introduction and instruction regarding codes and standards relevant to relief venting for explosion protection, by way of the International Fire Code, NFPA 68, and FM 1-44. Some learning objectives include:
- Learning methods for exclusion relief and the codes and standards guiding design for buildings where these hazards may exist.
- How to apply relevant building codes to buildings where explosion hazards exist.
- Learning what a deflagration is; how deflagrations are caused; and how to protect buildings against their effects.
- Determining how to use calculations as found in NFPA 68 and FM 1-44.
Aaron Gilmour has worked for Construction Specialties for 8 years and it's Explovent division for 4. During that time he has traveled throughout North America educating architects and engineers on Explosion Relief venting plus the benefits of using vents that are manufactured per NFPA 68 standards. This will be his 3rd SFPE guest speaker spot.
We will also be hosting the elections for the next two years at this months meeting as well. I encourage everyone to arrive early so we have enough time for dinner and for the short election poll in order to give Aaron enough time for his presentation at 6. We have a slightly adjusted schedule below to account for this.
