Presentation by: Ken Isman, Vice President of Engineering, NFSA
We are pleased to announce Kenneth E. Isman as the presenter for our April meeting. A member of the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) staff since 1987, Mr. Isman is currently the Vice President of Engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering and a Masters of Science in Management, both from the University of Maryland. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut and has been inducted as a Fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. Mr. Isman has been a member of one or more of the committees responsible for NFPA 13 since 1993 and was a member of committees responsible for the predecessor documents dealing with Rack Storage and General Storage going back to the mid 1980’s. He currently represents the fire sprinkler industry on more than 8 technical committees of the NFPA including the Technical Correlating Committee on Automatic Sprinklers, the Committee on Residential Sprinkler Systems, the Committee on Sprinkler System Discharge Criteria and the Committee on Fire Pumps. A noted author and lecturer, Mr. Isman has written a number of publications for the NFSA, NFPA and SFPE and has served as a speaker at more than 500 seminars and workshops on fire protection systems around the world.
The NFPA is already about half-way through the process of creating the 2016 edition of NFPA 13. This presentation will be a sneak peak at some of the more interesting changes that the committees are considering. The standard is still open for public comments on the committees’ decisions, so you still have an opportunity to influence the committee if you feel strongly about any of these topics. In addition, the program will cover some of the more frequently asked questions on the current edition of NFPA 13 (2013).
